Having been around for centuries, the tiny flaxseed is gaining the reputation of being one of the most powerful plant-based omega-3 sources on the planet! You know those high in omega-3 eggs you see in the grocery store?

Yup, flaxseed is the magic ingredient fed to those chickens! Each flax seed consists of 30% fat and Farmers Own uses a process called “cold-pressing” to crush the seed using naturally applied weight to excrete the essential oil from its shell.

Not using high temperatures to excrete the oil ensures that no essential nutrients are lost or broken down due to the heat.

Cooking Instructions

One of the best things about flaxseed oil is its versatility. For starters, it can easily be swapped for other types of oil in salad dressings, dips and sauces. You can also add one serving (one tablespoon or 15 ml) into smoothies or shakes to add some flaxseed oil into your diet with minimal effort. Keep in mind that flaxseed oil should not be used for cooking, as it does not have a high smoke point and can form harmful compounds when exposed to high heat. In addition to being used in food, flaxseed oil can be applied to the skin to enhance skin health and increase skin moisture. Alternatively, some people use flaxseed oil as a hair mask to promote growth and shine.

Storage

Store flaxseed oil in a cool, dry place, such as the refrigerator. Light, heat and air can break down flaxseed oil.
